A Fair Lady

It's rumored that Keira Knightley will play Eliza Doolittle in the 2010 remake of My Fair Lady. Will she live up to the part that was so elegantly portrayed by Audrey Hepburn? I don't know about you but I cannot wait to find out. I think that Keira Knightely was a perfect selection for the role. I'm more than excited to see how it will turn out.

More & More Eye Secrets

If you haven't noticed I post a lot about skin care for the eyes. It is because I am having problems with that myself. You see I have a very poor habit. I can't sleep. Hence, the skin around my eyes is starting to form purple bruises and puffiness. I have found a few products that should help and hopefully if you have the same problem as I do, it will help you, too.
The first product is manufactured by Dior. It is called Dior L'Or De Vie, La Creme Yeux and is a reverse aging serum. The next item is The Eye Concentrate by La Mer which revitalizes the skin. And lastly, Juvena's Eye Optimizer reduces redness, puffiness, dark circles and age lines.

Botox for the Eyes

Do you secretly envy those with thick lengthly eyelashes. I know I do. I just see them batting them this way and that and get very jealous. Well I think I've found a solution. Supposedly, it used to be a drug to fight cataracts of the eye but after awhile doctors noticed that it was also causing their patients eyelashes to grow at an alarming rate and thus they bottled it and sold it. The product is now known as Latisse and retailed by Allergan. It is FDA approved and Brooke Sheilds is the face of their campaign. I know I want fuller eyelashes and for me Latisse is a must have. Unfortunately, Latisse is a prescription treatment so in order to get it you'll have to meet with a doctor. It is made for those who have hypotrichosis or not enough eyelashes. I spoke with a woman who had the product at home and she told me had worked wonders. Beauty Expert Anastasia Soare had much to say about how this will effect the beauty industry. So for better butterfly kisses, I'd try Latisse.

For Sushi Lovers Only.

Went to the most amazing sushi place today. It's called Edomae. They serve sushi and hibachi (always a pleasant combination). To start I had an appetizer of fried calamari. Between courses they offer a small dish of ice cream to cleanse the pallet. We had a mango sorbet and a green tea ice cream. Yum. For the next course I had one of their special rolls. The Lobster King roll is composed of Tempura Shrimp, lobster, scallion drizzled in eel sauce and masago. I also had their Ninja roll, which is crab, cucumber and cream cheese. Overall, I rate Edomae a 10 out of 10 because it was more than noteworthy and sublimely delicious. Here is a video about using chopsticks for your next night out eating sushi. (I liked this guy's british accent.) Get out your chopsticks and dig in.

Quote of The Day

Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.
Karen Ravn

I saw this quote and fell in love. It is a inspirational quote in which all people should live by. Karen Ravn's column, Who Knew, appears Tuesdays in The Herald in Monterey, California.

Antique Shopping

My mother, Aunty Shirley-Anne and I went out antique shopping today. We found jewelry and cute little teapots, adorable baby buggies and more. There was one pink bracelet in particular that caught my attention and so I had it wrapped up and put it on my card within seconds. I also bought a replica of a skeleton key because it was only $1.99 and a little teapot . If you are ever in the area of Mooresville, NC, pay a visit to the old town and find some of the best prices on Antiques. :)

Quote of The Day

"Our lives are like a candle in the wind."

Our life is like a candle. Though, it's message is simple; it is also in many ways complex. Our lives are so like candles; our flames tremble at the slightest lick of wind. When we are strong our flame burns intensely bright but after the wick has burned down to it's end our flame begins to flutter until finally the light is gone. Sometimes the flame is snubbed by a cold breeze and other times it seems as though it has been burning forever. Though most importantly is the knowledge that life is so frail, that ones flame can go out without warning. Life is so imperative and worth protecting we must be sure to close the shutters and turn of the fans and keep our flames safe. Carl Sandburg wrote many fascinating poems and novels. His words were very wise.

Little Black Dress

I've grown very fond of Betsey Johnson's gorgeous take on the little black dress this year . These magnificent sequined masterpieces caught my eye in particular. Do enjoy.

Kids Say the Darn-dest Things!

While checking out a customer at work today, I saw a girl (about 13 yrs. old) glance at a Michael Jackson magazine collector's item. I overheard her say, "I am so sick and tired of seeing Michael Jackson everywhere." Everyone in the line to the check out just turned around and glared at her. I just stared at her and then focused back on my customer. Who in their right mind would say that out loud. Someone simply must teach the youth the do's and don'ts. DO have you own opinion. DON'T disrespect one of the most legendary names in entertainment. DO keep your completely misplaced comments to yourself. DON'T say stupid things out loud. DO research on the subject you are talking about before saying something. Michael Jackson passed away not even a month ago.

Quote of The Day

Blair: Penelope, take off that hideous scarf. You can see it from space.

This quote is from one of favorite shows, Gossip Girl, The Goodbye Gossip Girl Episode. Never read the books but I simply adore the fashion aspect of the show and to tell you the truth the story line is not that bad either. I just love Blair even though she is the total opposite of me, I think her character is fabulous.

Porshe Panamera

I absolutely love this car. The brand new 2010 Porshe Panamera is a 4-door sedan. It is sleek and has 20 percent better fuel economy than other leading luxury vehicles. Reaches 62 mph in under 4.2 seconds. Top's out at 175 mph. The most important fact is it's pretty. Prepare to pay 89,800 to drive in style. It's US arrival date is set for October 17.

Quote of The Day

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

Audrey's quote reminds us of the golden rule, do unto to others as you would have them do unto you. It's strange but because of Audrey's roles I never really took her seriously until now. I mean I've always adored her in her movies but I never realized she was this intellectual. I'm glad to be proved otherwise. It makes me to idolize her even more.

Fitness Tips

I went to the gym today and realized that I needed to start documenting my workout sessions, in order to know what's working best for my body. My sister found a neat website that helps me do just that and more. It aids you in organizing your schedule and setting goals, as well as recording measurements. You can speak with others about fitness goals on forums or join groups, that offer tips, health & dietary plans, and exercise routines. Maybe you will find something that proves to be of some help. Create your own locker room (account) on Daily Burn for all of your fitness needs.

Custom Lamp shade Project

I have a lamp shade in my room that is a little dull. I wanted to spruce it up. I found this easy to follow, how to make custom lamp shade video on youtube and I thought I'd share it with you. Enjoy. I added beading to mine. :) Expert Village is the name of the program.

Summer Fun

As you know, I just moved from South Florida a short time ago and I have been trying to get a feel for the Charlotte, NC area. I've decided that the best way to go about doing this is by finding things to occupy my time. Already I have found three types of activities offered here and I'm just itching to try them out. Whitewater rafting, gold digging, and hiking all look like exciting plans for this summer. I'm going to document these events and post them in order for you to decide whether you would like to try them out, too. Look forward to my posts about the exhilarating summer fun to come.

The Lovely Bones: The Movie

Remember the novel The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Paramount Pictures is bringing The Lovely Bones to life in Winter of 2009. There is a descrepency about whether the film will be coming out in 2009 or 2010 and has yet to be resolved. Still exciting. The film is being directed by Peter Jackson and the cast will include Rachel Weisz, Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg and Susan Sarandon. For those who haven't read the novel yet, I encourage you to get up to speed and fast. Winters approaching swiftly.

Great stuff. Low prices.

I purchased this candle holder a long time ago. It reminded me of a little faux chandelier. I bought it at this great place. It offers amazing items to decorate your home. It's called Old Time Pottery. Sometimes I go there with my sister, mom and aunt. We find tons of great things at low prices. Mirrors, paintings, tea sets, wine decanters, table settings, bed sheets, candle stands, etc. A lot of the times I buy something there that I think I can fix up and make my own and other times the items are just right. Hopefully, that helps you to complete whatever look you are going for at home.

Whether you have babies or not.

I don't even have kids and I certainly have no plans to have kids any time soon but something about Pottery Barn Kids called to me as I was walking past the store in the mall. I walked inside and absolutely fell in love with everything. I know you will, too. If you have kids this is definitely an ideal place to shop for them. Just look at the cute little kitchen sets.

Bun in the Oven

This is almost too gossipy for me to post but since I absolutely fell in love with the novel, this news is just something I could not ignore. It's simply just to BIG!

Kristin Stewart + Pregnancy Tests = BABY. I know what you are thinking. No way! But apparently rumors are going around that the 19 year old starlet is pregnant with twilight co-star Robert Pattinson's baby. Is this true? I guess we'll have to wait for 9 months (give or take) to find out. You can already hear the screaming of Pattinson's adoring fans, "No!"

Quote of The Day

"I argue thee that love is life. And life hath immortality."

Beautiful words from a very wise woman. Emily Dickinson reminds us that compassion is of course one of the most, if not the most, imperative things in life. The theme love has been replayed in so many novels and movies throughout history because of it's importance. Do not spend your life frivolously. Endeavor to find that someone who makes it all worth while. Live forever in the heart of the one you love.

My Sister

Meet my sister Amanda. She is a big part of my life. She's a UF Alumni majored in Public Relations living in South Beach ,FL. Brilliant. Beautiful. What is another "B" word that describes her? No not that one. She is the BEST. Take a look on her blog. Her blog has many interesting items to offer. No doubt you will find her just amazing as I do. Her blog is All The Frilly Things. Enjoy.

Moving Out.

I am currently living with my parents and about to start school in the fall. I have decided that I need to move out and be on my own so that I can really focus on school and my life. I am hoping to save enough money in order to do just that. I hope to move to this gorgeous little town center in Huntersville, NC. It's called Birkdale Village. The apartments are atop a shopping plaza. It contains shops, pubs, restaurants, and more. A few these are Victoria Secret, Anne Taylor Loft, American Eagle, Regal Theaters, Barnes & Nobles, Starbucks, Coldstone, etc. It has much to entertain.

Quote of The Day

"Failure is success if we learn from it."
by Malcolm Forbes.

Short and simple but to the point. Ever heard of the expression, "failing forward"? The most fascinating thing about the human mind is being able to learn from our mistakes. To be able to use the knowledge attained from our follies to better reach an accomplishment. So be not afraid to fail. Failing is but another road to success.

Dark Circles

I woke up this morning and shrieked after glancing in the bathroom mirror. I looked like a raccoon. I had dark bruises around my eyes and it was worse than ever before. I instantly began worrying. How do I fix this? Well for now I've decided to take action! For a trial period I will be using a combination of Neutrogena's Dark Circle Regimen as well as Bremenn Research Labs Hylexin. You can find Neutrogena products in most department and convenience stores and Bremenn can be found at Sephora. After my rehabilitation, I will offer before and after pictures on my blog. Then you can see for yourself whether these eye creams and potions really work.

For now here are some home remedies for reducing Dark Circles:
  • Mix one teaspoon flour, one teaspoon milk, a pinch of sugar, 1/4 spoon honey and squeeze half lemon juice. Apply it on face and once it is dry, rub the face with wet hands, till the pack in removed.
  • Grate cucumber / potato and squeeze fresh juice out of gratings. Dip two cotton balls in it and keep these cotton balls on eyes. This relaxes eyes and relieves tiredness of eyes.

(Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a human skin lightener.)

  • Powdered fenugreek and milk are said to tackle dark circles. Apply a paste of fenugreek mixed in milk on dark circles in the night. Wash off in the morning and watch dark circles vanish for good.
  • Take a teaspoon of tomato juice, a few drops of lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder (if you are not allergic to it) and a little flour, enough to make a paste.
Most importantly, the best remedy for reducing dark circles is simply to change your lifestyle and get some sleep. Need to know more about reducing and hiding dark circles? Visit My Dark Circles Blog.

Quote Of The Day

"Get up, stand up, Stand up for your rights. Get up, stand up, Don't give up the fight!"
Bob Marley

These words remind us that even though the economy is looking grim and it may feel like your life is heading in a downward spiral, you must not give up. You must hold your head high and thank god for each and every day of life, for that in itself is a blessing.

Why "A Silly Lily"?

I created this Blog, mostly because of my sister, Amanda. She had just finished posting on her blog, All The Frilly Things, and was explaining to me about all the fabulous things it allowed her to do. It was then that I decided that I would create my own blog, too. I want to be able to share with world, everything that I find entertaining, intriguing, and important. I want to be able to impact everyday lives of other's world wide. What better way than through the internet.

But why, "A Silly lily?"
In Hebrew, my name Susan means Lily. Also, I am a little bit of a goofball. Hence, the name A Silly Lily. Please keep and eye out for all of the fabulous posts to come. I hope my blog will prove to be not only entertaining but also educational. I look forward to your comments and concerns. Please enjoy.
